POP UP Event Announcement: NiOR Market

"A Story of NiOR Market"

UNDECORATED's curated gallery-style lifestyle project, "UNDECORATED," will host its first eat-in food event, "NiOR Market," for two days on Saturday, December 2nd and Sunday, December 3rd, at groundfloor Gallery in Nakameguro.

In this article, we will introduce the concept of "NiOR Market" and the enthusiasm of Mr. Tanio of "NiOR," who is co-curating the event, for its first Tokyo debut. You can find the previous journal here.

−What inspired you to start "NiOR Market"?
It all started when I wanted to convey European culture with "NiOR" bread as the main focus, so I reached out to local wine bars, Italian restaurants, and cheese shops. Since then, we have continued the event under the broad theme of "European food culture."

−It seems there have been changes as you continued the event.
Originally, it specialized in food, but I wanted to focus on lifestyle as well, so we started inviting perfume shops, jewelry stores, and florists to participate. This broadened the appeal of the event to more people, and recently, we have been welcoming 1,000 visitors at each event.

We will continue to make various efforts to eventually make this market one of the things that local children can proudly talk about in Nonoichi City. Also, in an era where there is said to be a shortage of artisans, it would be wonderful if we could inspire people to take an interest in craftsmanship through us, and if more people aspired to reach a global stage! That's the kind of market we aim for.

−Do you have any thoughts on the first Tokyo event?
I am proud that Nonoichi City, where "NiOR" is located, has interesting things that even Tokyo doesn't. I want the people of Tokyo to know about this commitment and to feel the essence of bread and my design sensibility. And I want to create a place where everyone can experience "fun" and "deliciousness."

−Finally, please say a word to those who will be attending the event on the day.
I have great respect for the work of a baker, and I want to create new and interesting things as a "creator who handles bread." And ultimately, I think it would be wonderful if I could become a bakery that "cannot be found anywhere else in the world." To achieve that, I believe it's necessary to understand "everything," not just bread, but also cooking and spatial design like interiors, and I will spare no effort to do so.

Through this event, filled with such aspirations, I hope that everyone will experience the delicious food culture of Europe and America, that the deliciousness will be intuitively conveyed, and that they will gain even a little interest in food.

This time, Mr. Tanio shared his thoughts behind "NiOR Market."
In future installments, we will feature interviews with food specialists scheduled to exhibit at the market, so please look forward to them.
