NiOR Market POP-UP Event Announcement
"The story of wineshop lulu"
"wineshop lulu" is located a 5-minute walk from Gakugei-daigaku Station.
Opened in January 2023, it has been embraced by a wide range of people, from wine novices to true wine connoisseurs. It even attracts international customers.
This time, we spoke with Ms. Maya Emoto, the owner of "wineshop lulu," about what inspired her to open the wine shop and her particular approach.
The compact interior, about 23 square meters, features a large L-shaped counter for standing drinks (kakauchi) and a wine cellar filled with many wines. The calming atmosphere, reminiscent of a European wine shop, was striking.

↑Its quiet presence in the residential area of Gakugei-daigaku evokes a European wine shop.
She had always thought of "opening my own shop someday" as a distant future event.
Ms. Emoto worked as a wine importer until the summer of 2022, but after the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided, "Perhaps I should try what I want to do now in Tokyo," and that's how her story as a wine shop owner began.
What she loves about wine is "how it expresses the 'colors' of foreign cultures and culinary history just as they are."
She said she wants to visit the production areas, interact with the producers, and convey her experiences and feelings to customers as a "spokesperson."
In the current natural wine boom, you can easily find it at convenience stores and supermarkets, but the wines stocked at "wineshop lulu" have special stories.
Ms. Emoto carefully selects and stocks wines whose producers' passion and feelings resonate with her.
Furthermore, Ms. Emoto's customer service style is "supportive."
While wine shops might seem intimidating, the moment you open the door, you are greeted with a warm smile, and Ms. Emoto herself explains things with evident enjoyment. It's a place where you can relax and enjoy wine.

Her dream is to eventually open shops in more regions, not just Tokyo, to convey the background of production and the appeal of wine to more people.
She also expressed her desire to create her own wine nearby.
Those who have read previous articles about the stores that will be exhibiting may have noticed that all of them offer exquisite gourmet food that pairs perfectly with wine.
Please enjoy the flavorful collaborations with the wines carefully selected by Ms. Emoto.
