My Work Tools

Our "My Work Tools" series interviews individuals active in various fields at their workplaces, exploring their passion for their work and their views on workwear. For our first installment, we focus on Takayuki Kono, designer for UNDECORATED.

―What led you to this profession?
Having seen my father work as a fashion designer, I naturally aspired to work in the fashion industry.
I deliberately chose not to study fashion at university, instead majoring in English and business administration. After graduating, I joined my current company. I learned everything from scratch as an assistant and have been the designer for UNDECORATED since 2015.

―What tools are essential for your work?
An indispensable tool for me is a "BLACKWING pencil."
It's a 4B, so the lead is very soft, allowing me to draw designs smoothly, which I find incredibly useful.
Many people now design using digital tools like iPads, but I prefer the analog, hand-drawn approach, so pencils are essential for me.

―What are your thoughts on workwear?

My mind is constantly filled with designs and fabrics.
That's why I prefer not to overthink my own clothes, so I own multiple pieces of the same outfit and rotate them daily.

What I wear almost every day is the Recycle Organic Cotton Compact Terry L/S T-Shirt.

The lining is a towel-like pile fabric, making it breathable and a very versatile piece that can be worn all year round.
It has a moderate thickness and soft touch, making it very comfortable to wear, so I highly recommend it to everyone.
