Regarding the 2024 Spring/Summer Collection
UNDECORATED focuses on "unadorned" scenes, considering the essence of materials that form the basis of clothing production, and developing a wardrobe constructed as a design for materials.
Driven by the spring breeze, items from the 2024 Spring/Summer collection are arriving one after another at the online store.
This time, we will share the background of this season's production, as told by designer Kouno.
―Please tell us about the theme of the 2024 Spring/Summer collection.
Kouno: Under the brand theme that focuses on the "unadorned" inner self, which I always keep in mind, the Spring/Summer collection was created using two keywords: "fantasy" and "incongruity."
The source of inspiration was the work of illustrator Takashi Tsushima, with whom we collaborated on textiles.
All of his works, expressed with an exquisite color palette, are somewhat fantastical.
It is difficult to discern emotions from the animals appearing in Tsushima's works, and we freely devise the inner world of the works based on the colors used in them.
The interpretation varies from person to person, often leading to incongruous aspects, and I drew inspiration from the fantastical appearance of his works and their internal incongruity.
―You mentioned "fantastical" and "unbalanced." In what parts of the items are these expressed?
Kouno: First, the colors. If you compare them to past collection lookbooks, you'll see that UNDECORATED is known for its gentle, somewhat warm neutral colors.
However, this season, we challenged ourselves with vibrant, lively colors extracted from Tsushima's works.
Another keyword, "incongruity," is expressed through materials.
Synthetic fibers that have the gentle, reassuring feel of natural materials. Conversely, natural materials that have the crisp, dry texture of synthetic fibers.
We've incorporated such surprises, aiming to create a subtle sense of discomfort between what you see and what you feel when you wear or touch the garments.
In terms of "discomfort," spring/summer items tend to have a light appearance and thin material due to the climate. For this reason, we focused on the yarn and knitting method to create items with a slight "fullness" or volume.
The Sheer Border T-Shirt, scheduled to be released soon, is a particularly cherished item for me, embodying this season's material creation.

The patterned parts are made of natural cotton yarn, and the colored sheer parts use polyester, resulting in a bumpy, wavy texture. The process of continuously knitting different materials with different yarn counts was difficult, and we went through many trials and errors until we were satisfied.
I really want everyone to try this piece.
As an aside, if you look closely at the collection look, you'll see that we intentionally created "imperfect styling," such as crumpled sleeve cuffs or layering a shirt over another shirt with only one collar showing. We paid attention to expressing incongruity in these details as well.
While maintaining the fundamental principle of design for materials, this Spring/Summer collection from UNDECORATED is slightly different from before, inspired by the works of Takashi Tsushima.
New products will continue to arrive, so please look forward to them.

Next time, we will share an interview with Takashi Tsushima, the inspiration behind the Spring/Summer collection, where he talks about his thoughts on the collaboration and his own creative activities.
Please look forward to it.
